12/15/2005: Thompson Speedway 1970 v1.0

This is an authentic track to compliment the US Pits 1970's mod. This track was designed to the best of my abilities given the limited number of pictures available from the early 1970's. Therefore, somethings may be considered the authors depiction of what could've been. However, I think historians out there would say this version is very very close. Unlike the current Thompson speedway, this track measured .542 miles in 1970. This is one of a few years that the speedway changed the length of the track by moving very large mounds of sand to shorten or lenghten the racing surface. A few years later, the course became a permanent .625 mile oval when the whole facility underwent major reconstruction.

[1] HOW TO INSTALL THE TRACK
***********************************

Open the zip file an extract to your track folder. The default location is C:\Papyrus\Nascar Racing 2003 Season\tracks\. If you have multiple instances of NR2003S installed, you will need to manually select the directory where you wish to install the track.

When we installed the dirt mounds in the turns, it was cool to watch you and the ai ramp the piles and end up somewhere across town. Problem was, if more than one ai went over the mound at once, the game would crash to desktop. We decided that it wasn't very realistic that cars ramped the mounds anyways based on every pictures we found from that era. So, we decided to install invisible tire barriers near the top of the mounds. This prevents any crashing to desktop and is alot more realistic when cars just pile into the sand dunes. The problem, if you would consider it one, is when you hit a tire barrier, you tend to do lots of damage. Although, the last time I hit a sand dune, I didn't fair well from that either.
